CARSON CITY - Brianna's Law has unanimously passed the Nevada Senate. The measure will allow police to obtain DNA samples of people arrested on felony charges.
The law is named after Brianna Denison. The 19-year-old was kidnapped and murdered in 2008. Her killer, James Biela, was arrested nine months later and eventually convicted to death for her murder. He was also convicted for raping two other women.
Supporters of the bill claim it may have saved Denison's life if it has been enacted earlier because Biela had a previous felony arrest.
Brianna's Law now goes to the Assembly.
