Reno, NV (KOLO) A program designed by the Reno Police Department to help students in the Washoe County School District improve their reading and literacy skills saw nearly 500 books donated in the month of March.
The program, coordinated by Officer Colleen Guilford will distribute books to schools across the area in an attempt to help curb literacy problems. Students who read below their grade level received the books and were assisted by tutors to improve their reading ability.
Schools are ranked on an "at-need" basis to determine how the books are distributed.
The program is part of an ongoing program to assist children with their education across the WCSO.
