Biker Vets Stop At Reno's V-A Hospital On Cross Country Ride

The Locust Street entrance to Reno's Veterans Administration Hospital was filled with shiny motorcycle Wednesday morning,.

Nearby their riders, wearing gear that identified them as members of various veterans groups gathered on picnic tables eating lunch.

They had been visiting patients throughout the hospital and paused to present a medal of appreciation to one of them--a young veteran of the Persian Gulf--before hitting the road.

The Veterans Awareness Riders make the trip from Sacramento to Washington, D.C. each year, arriving in the nation's capital in time for Memorial Day.

Along the way, they make stops like this, visiting with former comrades, spreading awareness of the service our nation's veterans represent.

At noon, they departed. Their next stop: the Veterans Cemetery at Fernley. They plan on spending the night in Elko before heading east once again.
