VERDI, NV - A precautionary Code Yellow lockdown is over at Verdi Elementary School after a bear sighting in the neighborhood Wednesday morning.

An NDOW warden says the bear is gone from the area of school property and is likely in the surrounding woods, but he has not seen the bear since it was reported.

The school district says the students and staff were in no danger, but since the bear hasn't been found, continued the lockdown for almost two hours. It was to remain in place through the school day, but was lifted when it was determined the bear was long gone.

Attached photos are from neighbor Bruce King, whose birdhouse was broken into by the bear.
