RENO, NV - You have the chance to be a hero to someone in need.
The United Blood Services of Reno is asking the public to consider being a hero to someone in need of a blood transfusion by donating blood this month, according to an official with the Donor Recruitment Department.
He says the United Blood Service is the exclusive supplier of blood products to the community's hospitals. This requires the need of volunteers to donate blood to ensure enough blood for the community's hospital patients in need of a blood transfusion.
The United Blood Services is now expanding its reward program. Donors can ear points for donating frequently and staying involved year after year, according to an official with the Donor Recruitment Department.
He says the points are redeemable for movie and restaurant gift certificates and other prizes.
Volunteers donating during the month of April will have a chance to win one of two $500 gift cards, according to an official with the Donor Recruitment Department.
Those wishing to donate blood can schedule an appointment by calling 800-696-4484 or visiting the website provided.
Blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.
The official says donors who are 16 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.
