Sandoval Names Barbee Acting Chief of Nevada Agriculture

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Gov. Brian Sandoval has named Jim Barbee acting director of the Nevada Department of Agriculture.

Barbee currently serves as an agriculture consultant to the Nevada Department of Education.

He was unanimously endorsed by the state Agriculture Board to replace outgoing director Tony Lesperance. Sandoval sought the
incumbent's resignation.

Barbee has served on the National Future Farmers of America Board of Directors and as a trustee for the group's foundation.

He has a master's in agricultural science and education from Cal Poly and a bachelor's in animal science from California State University, Chico.

Barbee will take a leave from his current position while serving as acting director and until a permanent director is named.
