Sparks Police called in the FBI to help investigate a bank robbery Friday afternoon.

Sparks, NV - Friday evening Sparks Police responded to a report of a bank robbery at the Bank of America on North McCarran Blvd near Prater Way. Upon arrival, officers were advised that the suspect had left on foot southbound on McCarran Blvd.

The suspect had produced a handwritten note and told the teller that the bag she was carrying had a bomb in it, and that she was leaving the bag at the teller window while she left.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic female adult and a very specific clothing description was given. A short time later, Officers of the Regional Gang Unit were in the area and located the suspect in the 800 block of Nichols near the Marina Car Wash.

The suspect was taken into custody and brought to the Sparks Police Department. The female suspect was tentatively identified as 46-year-old,Tammy Gomez.

Her identity has not been confirmed at this time. Gomez was interviewed and admitted to the bank robbery.

An undisclosed amount of cash was recovered from Gomez. Gomez was booked into the Washoe County Jail on charges of making a Bomb Threat and Robbery with the use of A Deadly Weapon.

Officers of the Consolidated Bomb Squad examined and confirmed that the bag left behind contained no bomb or Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

SPARKS, Nev. -- Sparks Police Department (SPD) officials say they called in the FBI to help investigate a bank robbery Friday afternoon.

Our KOLO 8 News Now crew on scene says it happened just before 5pm at the Bank of America on McCarran and Prater when a woman told an employee she had an explosive.

Authorities locked down the bank with about 50 people inside. Officials say they caught the suspect a few blocks away and the device was not an explosive. The Consolidated Bomb Squad was at the scene for a number of hours.

SPD officials are releasing very little information this early in the investigation. Stay with KOLO 8 News Now for more information as it becomes available.
