RENO, Nev. -- The American Fire, burning in California's Tahoe National Forest, grew to 11,950 acres from Friday into Saturday, August 17th.
An official with the Tahoe National Forest says the wildfire is now 45% contained. Officials describe the fire's behavior overnight as "moderate."
Because of the fire's remote location in rugged terrain, a Type I incident management team was ordered and is expected to take over sometime this weekend.
About 1,400 people are working the fire, including 41 hand crews, 47 engines, 36 water tenders, 19 dozers, and eight helicopters. Air tankers are also used when they are available.
