A Record Number, 56%, of Total NV Voters Already Cast Ballots

RENO, Nev. (AP) - More than 700,000 Nevadans cast ballots during early voting in advance of Tuesday's general election, with nearly 50,000 more Democrats voting than Republicans.

Secretary of State Ross Miller says 56 percent of the state's 1.2 million registered voters took advantage of the two-week window for early voting that ended Friday night.

He says that's up from the 53.7 percent turnout during early voting in the 2008 general election. Nearly 650,000 Nevadans cast ballots early that year.

A breakdown shows 307,877 Democrats, or 44 percent of the state's registered Democrats, have already cast ballots, compared with 259,913 Republicans, or 37 percent of Nevada's registered Republicans.

Miller says he's not surprised by the heavy early voter turnout because it has gone up each election since he became secretary of state in 2007.
