The Labor Day Holiday Turned Deadly

Sparks police say the drivers of a pickup truck and small car slammed into each other in the middle of the intersection.
Sgt. Mike Cardella, Sparks Police Department, says "As they struck in the intersection they both spun out of control. The pick-up went into a light standard where the father and his two children were waiting to cross the street."
Cardella says that the children were knocked out of the way of the accident and suffered minor injuries, while their father, Gary Loveland, was slammed into the traffic light and killed.
He says the driver of the compact car, Teshina Baxter, was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.
Her baby was in the car, but did not suffer any injuries.
Police are reviewing witness accounts to determine which driver ran the red light.
