One of the biggest deals made just before baseball's trading deadline involved a Spanish Springs' graduate.
The Dodgers shipped minor leaguer Kyle Smit along with Brett Wallach and Blake DeWitt to Chicago in exchange for Ted Lilly, Ryan Theriot, and $2.5 million.
Smit, a native of Sparks, has a 5.14 ERA in five minor league seasons.
