RENO, NV - GameTech International, a Reno based company that makes slot and bingo machines, announced layoffs for 40 employees Friday morning. Employees were notified as they showed up to work. As a precaution, the company had several armed guards on scene for the layoff notices.
The laid off employees represent 25% of their work force.
GameTech International Statement Regarding Restructuring:
Like many companies going through these times of economic difficulty, GameTech must ensure that its business strategies and plans, and its workforce to deliver those strategies and plans, are in line with current business and economic conditions. Unfortunately, this was not the case. As a result, GameTech implemented a restructuring of its organization and workforce resulting in a reduction in force of approximately 25% of its employee base. While this is clearly painful for all involved, it was a necessary decision for GameTech to be able to move forward aggressively as it works its way through a very difficult period for the company, and our industry as a whole.

very sorry to hear about the 40 folks that were laid off. As an alumni of the Jan 29th layoff take it from me....they did you a favor. I hope the economy picks up....and I hope we can all find work.
Well said BitterSweet. We all need to keep this perspective first. But what about the future? So many companies are governed by the same type of individuals. They put their personal vanity before the good of the employees and the company. We currently complain about the economy, but sometimes we fail to remember why the current economy is so bad: It hurts our relatives, friends, neighbors and sometimes us... Until companies start behaving in a responsible manner and start to acknowledge that they are only great because of great employees, this will continue to happen. By simply blaming this situation on the economy, we do not have to make anyone accountable and nothing will change. Many of the people laid off were my friends as well, and I certainly wish them the best of luck. Hopefully they will find themselves in a better place as many of GMTCs previous employees have. P.S. Best of times to you as well Bubba.
I think some of you are focusing on the wrong thing at this moment. 40 good, hard working people lost their job on Friday. Some of them were my friends. Please pray that they land on their feet. I'm sure their families would be thankful.
