Five More Cases Of West Nile Virus In Rural Nevada

Five more cases of West Nile virus have been detected in rural Nevada.

State health officials say that brings the total for the year to eight.

While temperatures are edging toward or below freezing in many areas, the health experts say the mosquitoes that carry the disease
remain present.

Two of the most recent cases were in Churchill County, where one
victim suffered the more severe (or neuroinvasive) form of the disease.

There were also two cases in Elko County and one in Nye.

The previous three cases were in Pershing and Clark counties.
