Heather Deyerle was killed the night the two were to have signed
Lyon County District Attorney Bob Auer told jurors several witnesses testified that Deyerle repeatedly threatened Heather and stated he would kill her. He says Deyerle didn't just kill his wife -- he executed her.
Deyerle's attorney described the shooting as wild. The defendant admitted on the stand that he chased her and shot her. Defense attorney John Schlegelmilch, however, told the jury that there was
no premeditation and his client was guilty of manslaughter.
Jurors had the choice of finding Deyerle guilty of first-degree
murder, second-degree murder or manslaughter.
