Sparks police are investigating an apparent accident that took the life of a 34-year-old bicyclist.
They say Francisco Rodriguez was riding his bike on a bike path east of Cottonwood Park when a man who was walking his dog let go of the animal's leash.
The dog ran in front of Rodriguez, causing him to swerve and lose control of his bike.
Rodriguez, who was not wearing a helmet, struck his head on a rock and died shortly after being transported to a hospital.
Investigators are hoping to talk with a man who was on scene but left before he could be identified or interviewed.
Other witnesses said the man saw the accident and assisted rodriguez until medical help could arrive, but then left before speaking to police.
