Crews are working to clean a section of eastbound I-80, just east of the Donner Summit Rest Area in California where a three axle tanker truck crashed around 6:00 Wednesday morning.

Officer Mike Pugh with California Highway Patrol says the right-hand eastbound traffic lane on I-80 just outside the rest area is still closed as crews clean-up the oil spill. Both lanes had previously been closed while crews worked.

About 2,500 gallons of oil spilled onto the highway when the tanker trailer overturned and hit a guardrail, rupturing the oil tank.

By 9:30, crews had the spill partially cleaned up.

CHP says the crash happened when the tanker’s driver made a left-hand turn in the eastbound lane, and slid into the north side of the roadway, colliding with the guardrail.

The truck’s driver was wearing a seatbelt, and was not injured. No other vehicles were involved.

There’s no word on when the spill will be completely cleaned-up.
