As lightning bolts struck south of the Carson Valley this afternoon, two small brush fires have erupted. One is burning on Jack Wright Grade near Wellington, the other is North of Wild Oat Mountain near Topaz Lake. Air units are responding to both blazes.
The Nevada Division of Forestry reports the fire near Jack Wright Pass is 20 to 30 acres and has potential to "escape." The fire near Topaz Lake is estimated at 15 acres. An official says at last check neither was threatening homes.
Rain is reported to be falling in the area and may help firefighters get the blazes contained.
