Elko Fires

The largest of the two new fires burning in Elko County is the Murdock fire burning about eight miles southwest of Montello.

The Elko Interagency Dispatch Center says the fire burning pinion, juniper and sagebrush in steep terrain has burned about 750 acres. Several isolated buildings are threatened.

Another fire southeast of Jackpot has burned about 40 acres.

Officials say continued high temperatures, dry conditions and wind are creating dangerous fire conditions, and they are urging people who venture into the mountains and desert to be extremely cautious.
