Nevada Delegates Upset Over Delays in Tahoe Pier Agreement

Some Nevada delegates to the governing board of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency say California officials are hampering attempts to reach an agreement over pier construction at Lake Tahoe.

Shelly Aldean is Carson City's appointee to the bi-state governing board. She says some delegates feel officials from Sacramento are trying to control discussions on shore-zone regulations that affect pier construction and buoy placement.

Critics call California Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi an obstructionist to reaching a deal that has been debated for 20 years. Garamendi says he's just trying to follow the law and protect Lake Tahoe.

He says any shoreline regulations should be prepared as part of a new regional plan for the entire Tahoe Basin and not be considered separately to ensure compliance with California environmental law.
