Earlier this week...A plane crash outside of Bakersfield claimed the lives of two veteran pilots. One of the victims, Al Goss was a longtime flier in the Reno Air Races.

Both victims of that crash described as exceptional men. Al Goss has put the crowd in awe at the Reno Air Races since 1981. We spoke with someone close to Goss who says the races will never be the same without him.

“He'd always come in and give me a hug and say ‘hey how's it going, everything ok?’ I think that's what I'm going to miss the most.”

Debby Post was on Goss's race team; she calls it ‘the Warlock family.’

“This was supposed to be our special year, we were going for the gold it was going to be our year.”

Post says that dream has come to an end with the death of the team's leader. A man who once worked as a crop duster but whose true passion was to fly planes from the World War II era

“Not going to be the same, no way no how.”

She describes Goss as a family man who inspired people all over the world, including her son.

“He told my son follow your dreams, and hold onto them.”

Goss was killed when his plane crashed outside Bakersfield.
According to Post, “witnesses said it looked like he was doing aerobatics and then came into the ground way too hard and it ejected both him and steve.”

Debby describes Steve as Goss's right hand man.

“Steve was a character. He never cared to be photographed but every so often someone would get one and he’d be like nooo!”

Both men, knowledgeable pilots, and will be missed in the world of aviation.

Post says she wishes her friend and teammate blue skies and tailwinds—forever.

She starts to choke up. “A lot of racers are going to miss him, and a lot of fans. I know my family's going to miss him.”

Al Goss was 68.
