Prostitution. Getting paid for sex. Some describe it as the world’s oldest profession. And Nevada is known for it. You may remember, last week we told you about the Mustang Ranch's Madam—Susan Austin—and her expose in Penthouse Magazine.

She's given KOLO 8 News Now rare access into the newly renovated brothel. We sat down with her earlier this week and she says there is a big misconception about legalized prostitution.

Austin says society has a stigma attached to prostitution...but she says her working girls, are helping the community. I want to warn you some of this subject matter is a little risqué.

Austin says “the biggest misconception about the house is we run around naked and have raunchy sex. Our ladies are beautiful, classy caregivers.”

Madam Susan Austin says 40 percent of her business isn’t men looking for sex. Its sad, lonely people who simply want companionship.

“These men weren't blessed by mother nature generally so the women have to look to the heart, not the package.”

Belle is one of the madam’s working girls. “We’re counselors caretakers...”

Belle says she left the corporate world for Mustang Ranch more than four years ago. She says she has never looked back.

“We really do help people. A lot of guys with sad stories come in here, they maybe just lost their wife and we're glad we're someone they can talk to.”

But let’s face it. More than half of their business is about sex.

Madam says they “aren’t sex fiends, but love sex.”

So how do these ladies say they help society in that regard?

“When you have a legal house in an area you'll find you don't have the instances of sexual attacks, the police statistics show it, they're almost non-existent.”

Belle says instead of committing sex crimes, some will go to the brothel to live out deviant sexual fantasies.

“I read Stephen King books and Stephen King had nothing on this guy.”

Some would argue the presence of legalized prostitution does not stop sex crimes from happening in an area, but actually attracts them. Professionals say one thing that’s not debatable is that they are a financial asset to the state and local community.

“We pay $18,750 every quarter per house to the county and that goes straight to help with the police, fire and schools.”

Belle says she hopes one day the stigma changes.

“I hope people look at this business a little different we are helping and it's a positive not a negative thing…”

What do you think? Can legalized prostitution help the community? In any way?

Austin said, “We really do help people. A lot of guys with sad stories come in here, they maybe just lost their wife and we're glad we're someone they can talk to.” The cost to see a therapist is less per hour, you are likely to get some actual help with whatever your problem is, it might be covered by your insurance, and they don't care what you look like. In actuality, the prostitutes DO care what you look like, though if you come across with enough money - that they can take home to their hubby and kids - they will put up with you for 45 minutes.

Continuing the infomercial, Jennifer said, "It's cheaper, safer and smarter to visit the Mustang Ranch and Wild Horse @ exit 28 than have a girlfriend on the side." Unequivocally, no. Not even close, even if you lived at Exit 21. Cheaper: you can have more fun for a lot less money; or, have a lot more fun for that amount of money. Safer: anyone can get STD tests. Smarter: easy to find a girlfriend on the web; what is stupid is to think that a Nevada brothel is the place to find what you are looking for. If that meets your needs then you are not looking for much and are willing to overpay for it. For the NV brothel budget, you can take a girlfriend to LA, Vegas, NYC or even Paris. Seriously, it's not that hard to find a woman that wants to do that.

Anybody want to buy the Brooklyn Bridge ? I just called my financial adviser and demanded to know why he never told me that visiting $1000 hookers who are located 1200 miles away is cheaper than a girlfriend. He apologised and said he was faxing over the deed to the Brooklyn bridge to make it up to me. I need to sell it because, based on what I know about brothel rates, I figure I owe my girlfriend for $107,600 for 2009.
