SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - A Fernley man has been cited for illegally baiting and placing an animal trap that snared a cat along the Truckee River in east Sparks.

Officers with the Nevada Department of Wildlife describe 29-year-old Christopher Iveson as a "rookie" trapper who was remorseful when told of his violations.

Iveson was cited for setting a leghold trap within 30 feet of exposed bait and 200 feet of a roadway.

Authorities say the cat was lured Sunday by an open can of tuna. Once snared, the animal had nowhere to go but in the water.

Someone called Washoe County Regional Animal Services, who took the cat to the Nevada Humane Society. Officials there say the feline was traumatized and cold but is doing better and will not lose its leg.

don't be silly this kid did something that we have been building nations on in this country. We kill hundreds of thousands of beasts each day in this country to feed you fat fellas that are complaining. Maybe you should shut up and eat beans smell your farts and stop talking. I support what this kid did he didn't mean to catch the cat and if he did so what, the owner of the cat should be prosecuted!!! Keep track of your pets and you won't have this problem!!

I stand by my desire for this individual to face financial ruin. Sure, trapping is legal but the desire to inflict pain on a living being CAN be compared to Manson, Dahmer, Mengele, Ramirez, Hitler and so on. Trapping isnt a sport, it's a sickness. Pick on something that is your own size that can defend itself. If you want real sport jump into the MMA ring. That is a real sport.

People, this is a legal activity! It is unfortunate that a cat was trapped, but the kinds of traps that were set don't even break the skin on the animal trapped. The only reason this is an issue is because PETA is involved. TRAPPING IS LEGAL. There was no danger of a child getting caught in these traps and if you're worried about your pet..."keep them on a leash, like the signs say to do"!! It is way too bad that the reporting of this incident was very inaccurate. Must have been a slow news day!! And for the person wishing for financial ruin...SHAME ON YOU!! These are hard times. Everyone is trying to keep their heads above water. Comparing any trapper to Damer or Bundy is ludicrous! Again, a slow news day!!!!
