Reno Man Indicted In Slaying of Parents

A Reno man accused of killing his parents and leaving their bodies in a garage for a week or more has been indicted on two felony murder counts.

John Huntoon, 55, is charged with killing his 84-year-old mother Emily by beating her to death or strangling her and his stepfather William Huntoon, 86 by asphyxiation. A gag was placed over the victim's month.

The two counts handed up in Wednesday's indictment also carry an enhancement of a crime against the elderly, which would double Huntoon's sentence if he's convicted.

The deaths occurred some time in early June. Huntoon called police to the home he shared with his parents on June 25 and directed them to the bodies.

While being held without bail at the Washoe County Jail, Huntoon allegedly confessed to bludgeoning and strangling his parents but police said he did not say why.
