Law officers captured a teenage suspect hiding in the bushes near an exclusive Lake Tahoe neighborhood Tuesday evening after he fled police and touched off an extensive manhunt.

Douglas County sheriff's deputies arrested the Carson City youth at about 5:30 p.m. after a resident of Glenbrook Estates notified police that the suspect had been seen hiding near the home.

He faces a number of charges in both Carson City and Douglas County, including eluding police, assault with a deadly weapon - because he rammed a deputy's cruiser with a rental truck - and grand theft auto.

Authorities went door to door searching homes in the Glenbrook area and at one point closed parts of U.S. Highway 50 after the teen fled police early Tuesday morning.

The Douglas County sheriff's office said the youth was driving a rental truck that was stolen at 3 a.m. in Carson City. It was spotted about an hour later in the Indian Hills neighborhood of northern Douglas County.

A Douglas County deputy chased the truck through Carson City and back into Douglas County, where another teen jumped out, claiming he had been kidnapped. He too was in custody Tuesday night.

The pursuit continued through the casino core area at Lake Tahoe's south shore, into South Lake Tahoe, then back into Nevada. The driver abandoned the truck in Glenbrook and fled on foot.

The Douglas County sheriff's office said he was armed with a 45-caliber handgun, but there were conflicting reports and that had not been confirmed Tuesday night.
