Fire-strafed eastern Nevada was spared thunderstorms predicted by forecasters today while the western part of the state was placed under a flash flood watch covering burn areas near Lake Tahoe and Reno.
A flash flood watch was in effect for the Reno-Carson City area and the Sierra, with forecasters warning of potentially extensive runoff in the burn areas of the Angora fire west of Lake Tahoe and the Hawken fire southwest of Reno.
In eastern Nevada, cooler temperatures and an additional cloud cover assisted firefighters who battled weekend heat approaching 100 degrees along with flames that had blackened some 730 acres.
