The first issue of Edible Reno-Tahoe Magazine hits the news stands Saturday.

Editor and Publisher Amanda Burden started the quarterly magazine after her seven-year stint as editor and contributer for Reno Magazine. She says Edible is all about supporting the local food movement, by promoting organic and healthy eating.

The free magazine is meant to help locals find ways to eat locally, by supporting local farmers and dining at local restaurants. Iit will also feature articles on gardening, raising backyard chickens, and even bee-keeping.

"The mission of the magazine is to point people to all the resources in the community. Here is a great restaurant you can go to. Here's a recipe you can try at home. Here's a way you can build a garden in your backyard. Support local restaurants that are doing the right thing," said Burden.

She says the magazine features sixty-two different "edible" communities in nevada, which helps make the content of the magazine accessible to people from all different financial backgrounds. She says she hopes it will help people realize that eating locally and healthy does not have to be expensive.

Copies of "edible" can be found at sixty different local and Nevada Grown business members, such as Whole Foods and Fourth Street Bistro. The magazine is hosting several launch parties, and local food fairs this weekend.
