A small army of fire fighters armed with two tanker planes are trying to get containment around a series of wild fires near Verdi, northwest of Reno.
The blaze, known as the Bull Fires, was threatening homes in subdivisions stretching up the foothills east of Verdi, but a change in wind direction appeared to be kleeping flames at bay.
So far the main fire is about seven per cent contained, but fire fighters feel a little more confident the flames will not threaten homes in the area.
Weather forecasts call for continued chance of lightning both this afternoon and tomorrow.
