Nevadans are being encouraged to offer symbolic state themes that could be used on a new quarter to be produced by the U.S. Mint.

State Treasurer Brian Krolicki is head of an advisory committee that will select the coin. Once themes are submitted, the mint will use them to design three to five different coins and return them to the state for a final decision.

The Nevada coin will be released in January 2006.

Suggestions for the theme must be presented to Krolicki’s office by Sept. 1. A spokeswoman for the office said the themes can’t be controversial, such as Yucca Mountain. Suggested themes must include a brief description of how they’re significant to Nevada.
