Following the path of the early pioneers Tad Dunbar and John Tyson attempt to cross Nevada entirely on dirt road. Sometimes the road is nothing more than a trail, but after six days and 822 miles, the two elder veterans of KOLO 8 News found their way across Nevada from California to Utah.
"We couldn't rely on the maps! We kept getting lost!" Tyson said, "it was really frustrating because I was doing the navigating. I was beginning to think I couldn't have caught cold in a phone booth!"
So the two intrepid trail blazers decided to rely on something else. They started asking locals who lived in the outback.
"That made all the difference" says Dunbar, "that plus we bought some upgraded maps in Eureka. From there it was clear sailing!"
"We saw some incredible scenery and wildlife on our trip" says Tyson. Nevada truly is a remarkable place to live!" Dunbar concurs. "It was quite an accomplishment and a great way to end my 38 years at Channel 8.
