Heather Braun says he was with her dog Manny last Thursday coming down in her car from the Keystone Trail Head. She says the 6 year old Boston Terrier ran ahead of her to the car as he always does, but when she got to the car, Manny wasn’t there.
“I hiked the rest of the hills for another hour to an hour and a half. Next day we went out on a quad and quaded the whole area--went out in the neighborhood with flyers, offered rewards, Craig's List, he's not a wanderer, he doesn't run. We know he didn't run away,” says Heather.
Heather says Manny is her soul, the six year old Boston Terrier she says got her through a severe depression a couple of years ago and she needs him back home.
While she enlisted the help of her friend, Malaika Heinbaugh, she also called one man, Larry Oakes.
He and his dogs Tyler and Willow are from Longview Washington and specialize in Search and Rescue of both human and pet.
“Even if the window is just cracked a little bit of the air escapes, scent escapes and in this case going up there the windows were unrolled,” says Oakes.
According to Larry, Manny is still alive. A search of the area showed animal carcass and scat, nothing that would point to Manny, and according to the two border collies, the terrier was picked up here by someone in a vehicle. But that vehicle did not leave from this trail head.
So we head to another exit point. Willow picks up no scent. We go farther up the hill, still nothing.
No doubt Heather is paying for Oakes service, she's also spent a lot of time posting signs, and making calls. There's also a reward for Manny's safe return. But is it worth it?
“I would ask a mother why they would look for her child,” says Heather.
If you know about Manny’s whereabouts and would like to return him for a reward, no questions asked, take him to Pyramid Animal Hospital at 2405 Pyramid Way in Sparks. Heather says Manny is very friendly and was last seen wearing a red sweat shirt ,no collar.
