Fires are now in full blaze in Lyon County, West of Adrian Valley, NE Pine Nut Mountains, south of the Carson River, 10 miles south of Silver Springs, 12 miles NW of Wabuska, Nv.
The Sierra Front Type II Incident Command Team has been assigned to the fire Sunday. The Incident Command Post is at the Silver Springs Middle School on US Hwy 50. 10% containment is expected by Friday 13th July.
There is concern about the major power lines in the area, habitat for sage grouse, deer and wild horses; old growth pinyon tree habitat; watersheds of the Carson and Walker Rivers.
Firefighting Resources are in high demand throughout the west. All available resources are being committed to this incident as they become available.
13,000 acres have been destroyed in this blaze, and was started by lighting Friday afternoon.
The terrain is incredibly rugged and inaccessible, and fire crews are having a difficult time getting a handle on the flames.
Officials say there is no threat to homes; the closest homes to this fire are 6 miles southeast of the flames.
There is no word on containment at this time, but fire crews expect to have the fire fully contained by Friday, July 13th.
