Broken Gas Line Forces Evacuation in Reno

A broken gas line forced the evacuation of about two dozen people from a Reno neighborhood this afternoon.

Reno Fire spokesman Steve Frady says a backhoe broke the gas line just after two p-m on Washoe County School District property north of downtown near Laurel and Valley roads.

No injuries were reported. The evacuations were ordered at a school district print shop, summer school office and a neighboring duplex.

Firefighters shut down the gas line. They say the area is safe and an investigation is continuing.
