About 200 new state laws, more than a third of all laws passed by Nevada lawmakers this year, take effect Sunday.
Some of those laws include one that's expected to help ease the state's prison overcrowding problems.
Also on the list of measures taking effect at the start of the fiscal New Year, are laws to help children and families, improve campaign finance disclosure, crack down on sex offenders and continue programs that help problem gamblers.
Key sections of the measures enacting a record seven billion dollar state budget also become law, along with a pay raise plan for state workers.
