LAS VEGAS (AP) - An annual survey by Education Week magazine ranks Nevada 50th in the nation for the quality of its public K-12 education.
The Quality Counts 2010 survey gives Nevada an overall report card score of D. The nation, as a whole, earned a C.
Nevada's overall score was dragged down in four main categories as Nevada got D's in students' potential for success, K-12 achievement, alignment or matching teachers with student need and school finance.
Nevada ranks 48th in the nation in education spending.

I lived in Vegas while single during my AF years, so I can't vouch for any education then for kids - however, going by the way you people misspell words and your sentence structures, I'd say there's a problem with both parents and teachers. No spaces after periods, no capital letters after periods... do you understand how difficult that is to read? If you can't do it correctly, how can you expect your kids to do so? Really, think about it. I was thinking of moving back to Nevada with my now 12 year old daughter, because here in FL the school system is pretty bad too, but I suppose I'll do a lot more thinking before I make the decision on going to NV.
On the commercials the teachers are bragging about how valuable their experience is. Really, we’re #50. Maybe we need to get rid of these overpaid teachers and get new ones in there, teachers that will lift us up to a level that is not so embarrassing. The education system needs over-hauling and this maybe the opportunity to begin with a new start. I’ve personally seen how unprofessional and wasteful teachers are. Taking a few more dollars from a failed system won’t hurt that much.
you get what you pay for ? I have 2 children in Nevada schools today. My boys 1 year apart have had the same teachers at the same school. My oldest sets the curve and little brother is having problems staying focused. Recently he has overcome some of his difficulties, due to mom and dad getting on his case and impressing upon him how important learning and accomplishing goals are for his future. The teachers aren't the problem! I am curious if this is more of a Southern Nevada problem or Norhtern.
