Thirty-three hundred scenic areas in the Sierra along the Nevada-California line will be protected from development under a deal announced yesterday.
Sierra Pacific Power Company will receive 2.2 million dollars for the property under the deal arranged by The Nature Conservancy. It includes seven miles of the Truckee River between Floriston, California and the Nevada line.
The property will be managed by the California Department of Fish and Game.
Officials say the pact has been four years in the making and involved negotiations between Sierra Pacific, the Truckee Meadows Water Authority, the conservancy and others.
