LAS VEGAS (AP) - New polling shows a former federal judge could topple incumbent Gov. Jim Gibbons in a primary election to select the Republican nominee for the Nevada governor's race.
In a Las Vegas Review-Journal poll of 625 registered voters published Sunday, 39 percent of respondents said they would vote for judge Brian Sandoval over Gibbons. Some 23 percent of respondents said they backed the governor and 31 percent were undecided.
The poll found Sandoval would also beat Democratic hopeful Rory Reid in a bid for the governor's office. Fifty-three percent of respondents said they support Sandvoal and 31 percent backed Reid. A Clark County commissioner, Reid is the son of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
The poll was conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research on Jan. 5. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 6 percent.
