Intestinal Illness Closes Elementary School in Reno

An outbreak of an undetermined intestinal illness has forced the closure of Alice Smith elementary school in Reno.

About 100 students and staff members have been stricken with diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

The county health department is investigating the cause and source of the infection. Special school district crews will conduct a deep and thorough cleaning and disinfecting of both the school and the buses.

Officials hope to re-open the school in Golden Valley on Monday.
