A lighted Precious Moments Angel Christmas tree topper is being recalled as a fire hazard after reports that the tree topper can overheat.

According to Reno Fire Marshal Joan Presley, about 4,300 of the Precious Moments Angel Tree Toppers, which are manufactured in China, are being recalled by distributor Precious Moments, Inc. of Carthage, Missouri in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

There have been two incidents reported in which undersized wiring in the units apparently caused the tree toppers switch assembly to overheat and melt. Fortunately, Presley says there have been no reports of injuries, so far. She points out that this is a particularly hazardous situation for those residents who have live trees that may be prone to drying out.

Residents with the tree toppers should immediately stop using them and return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.

The tree toppers were sold for about $18.00 each from August through December at Menards, Shopko and Blain's Farm and Fleet nationwide. They are described as a 10-inch tall vinyl angel with LED lighted wings. The angels are white, gold and yellow, and are holding either a star or a set of bells.

More information on the recall can be obtained by calling Precious Moments at (877) 778-7275, or visiting the company's website below.
