A fire early Sunday morning destroyed a construction site at Renown Medical Center in Reno.
It happened around 1:30 a.m., near the intersection of Mill Street and Kirman.
That’s were assisted-living apartments – owned by the medical center – are under construction.
The framework was completely destroyed by the fire, and the heat and flames shattered windows in the area, phone and electrical lines snapped, and power poles were devoured.
A dumpster and construction equipment were also damaged in the fire. While the fire remains under investigation, authorities are calling the case suspicious.
A spokesman from Renown says they are relieved that no one was injured in the fire. They are still evaluating the extent of the damage, but plan to go forward with the project to create affordable housing for their employees.
