On Friday afternoon, officials with the Lassen County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team discovered human remains about 6 ½ miles east of an abandoned 1991 Mazda sedan, that was found in a heavily-wooded area of Lassen County. Officials say those remains are consistent with that of Wiltrude Moritz, the Douglas County woman who has been missing since May 14th, 2007.
Officials say the vehicle, which was found Wednesday night, belongs to Moritz. The sedan was found on a logging road approximately six miles south of the Fredonyer Snowmobile Park on Highway 36 between Susanville and Westwood.
Douglas County Officials say there were no obvious indications of foul play or trauma. They believe Moritz tried to hike out of the area after having leaving her vehicle.
