A former officer of The Children's Community Chest of Reno has pleaded guilty to felony insurance fraud.

Timothy Lockwood, 56, faces from one to four years in prison when he's sentenced July 9 by Washoe District Judge Jerome Polaha.

Lockwood is accused of fraudulently reporting his son's car as stolen to Geico Insurance Co. in July 2002 and receiving $6,500 on the claim.

He was arrested after an acquaintance reported the fraud to the state Attorney General's Insurance Fraud Unit.

Deputy Attorney General Ronda Clifton said fraud harms all consumers by increasing insurance premiums.

"Our unit's aggressive prosecution is sending the message that we have zero tolerance in this state for insurance fraud, and citizen involvement by reporting such crimes is an important part of the equation," Clifton said.
