RENO, Nev. (AP) - Friends and neighbors of a 77-year-old Reno woman who died in an apartment fire over the weekend say she recently survived two bouts with cancer and was known for her kindness.

Authorities identified Vegretta Nicolet as the victim who was found severely burned in her wheelchair after the blaze broke out about 5:30 a.m. Sunday at an eight-unit complex just west of Renown Regional Medical Center.

Apartment manager Janissa Bell told the Reno Gazette-Journal she was a small lady but had the "biggest heart."

Her friend, Mary Lou Warner, says she still enjoyed going to the casinos and playing Bingo.

An investigation into the cause of the fire continues but officials believe it was started by a cigarette. Three other units were damaged.
