The Coast Guard is conducting a search for a missing man Sunday night at Lake Tahoe.
The man – who is not yet indentified – disappeared around 6 p.m.
Witnesses say he fell into the water from a sailboat about 200 yards off the Tahoe Keys marina.
Friends on board attempted to toss him a life jacket. He disappeared before grabbing it.
During daylight hours two helicopters assisted with the search.
A representative from the Coast Guard estimates the temperature of the water at approximately 50 degrees.
A healthy person is likely to succumb to hypothermia after just a few hours in those temperatures.
The Coast Guard says as the evening progresses they will likely focus their efforts on recovery rather than rescue.
