Reno police identify California man as suspect in Reno murder

A convicted felon from California has been identified as a suspect in the shooting death of a man early Monday at a Reno motel, police said.

Investigators said they're looking for Frank Smith, 29, of Stockton, Calif., who's also sought in connection with a string of armed robberies around his hometown.

A man was shot after two male suspects confronted him at the Lido Inn on West Fourth Street. He was taken to Renown Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim's name wasn't immediately released.

The suspects fled in a vehicle, which was later recovered.

Smith is a documented East Coast Crip gang member who has a previous conviction for second-degree murder out of California, according to investigators.

Anyone with information should call Secret Witness at 322-4900.
