RENO, Nev. (AP) - Reno fire officials are reminding area residents that open burning season is over and offenders could face misdemeanor fines.
Fire Marshal Joan Presley says firefighters have responded to several calls that turned out to be people burning yard debris.
Open burning of vegetative materials is allowed only during brief times in the spring and fall and requires a permit. The fall burn period began Oct. 16 and closed Nov. 1.
Burning of household trash, cardboard, rubber products, tires, plastic, petroleum, construction debris or other non-vegetative materials is prohibited.
Violations are a misdemeanor and carry a possible fine of up to $250.
