The Gerlach Volunteer Fire Department is getting a new addition to its firefighting arsenal.
Washoe County Comissionaer Bonnie Weber presented Chief Bill Gooch with the keys to a new Pierce Contender fire engine on Thursday. It will replace a 41-year-old truck currently in use.
The 18-member department serves the rural community of about 700 residents residents north of Reno. It also responds to emergencies in a general service area covering 3,000 square miles.
