A woman shot in the head over the weekend has died and her estranged husband is now facing a murder charges, Lyon County authorities said Wednesday.
Shelby Joanette, 36, died Tuesday night at a Reno hospital, where she was taken after being shot twice in the head on Saturday, authorities said.
Her estranged husband, Michael Fixer Newcastle, 35, of Las Vegas, was arrested Saturday outside of Beatty and booked for attempted murder.
With Joanette's death, Newcastle will now be charged with first-degree murder with a deadly weapon, authorities said.
Investigators said the couple was separated and Joanette was
staying with her parents in Fernley.
She left the home Saturday morning to tend to her horses, and called her father a short time later to say her truck had broken down on the way.
When her father arrived to assist her, he found her injured with gunshot wounds to the head.
Witnesses provided a vehicle description, which led to Newcastle's arrest, authorities said.
