An accident North of Reno involving three vehicles and a motorcycle leaves one man dead. Authorities say speed was likely a factor in the collision. It happened on Silver Lake Road in the community of Stead. Police say they believe a motorcyclist tried to pass a white Dodge on the right, as it was turning off of Silver Lake. The man killed today’s accident is identified as 44-year-old Joseph Duffy of Reno.
They say the bike ended up t-boning the Dodge. And police tell KOLO 8 News, the motorcyclist was thrown from his bike into a van, and killed. One person in the van suffered non life-threatening injuries, and a third vehicle was also damaged.
The tragic accident comes as bikers gathered in Sparks on Sunday. Riders from a variety of clubs were on hand. That included the Sober Riders, which one member says tries to lead others to be clean and sober by example. Ministers were also expected to bless some of the bikes…asking for God’s protection on the roads.
As the weather get warmer, more motorcyclists may be sharing the roads, and bikers are asking the drivers to be extra cautious.
The government says in 2005, 56 motorcyclists were killed on Nevada Roads.
