Plans for a massive housing development proposed near Lockwood will get another look later in May, after Thursday night’s meeting with the Storey County Commission.
The Cordevista Project is an 8,600-acre development featuring 15,000 new homes that would be built next to the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center. A petition boasting 600 signatures was given to the commission during last night’s meeting. The people who signed it say, a large development like this would ruin the rural lifestyle they love.
Despite the petition, many homeowners in the area of Lockwood support the project, hoping it would provide better infrastructure for the growing county…in the form of schools and roads.
Developer Blake Smite is trying to secure a zoning change for the area, and he says the existing industrial center needs more support.
The commission will take up the issue again, on May 17th.
