New Documents in U.S. Attorney Firings

Newly-released documents are shedding some light on the dismissal of Nevada U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden.

The papers say Bogden was told he was being dismissed because the Bush administration had a short window to get Republicans into prosecutor jobs…in an effort to bolster their resumes.

Bogden says Associate Attorney General William Mercer told him back in December that the firings were being carried out so the GOP would have more future candidates for the federal bench.

Bogden is one of eight U.S. Attorneys whose firings have sparked an investigation on Capitol Hill.
